Song from the Forest vertelt het verhaal van Louis Sarno, een Amerikaan die in de ban geraakt van een nummer dat hij toevallig hoort op de radio. Hij volgt het lied tot diep in de regenwouden van Centraal-Afrika, waar hij terecht komt bij de Bayaka. Hij keert nooit terug, leert de taal, wordt verliefd en krijgt een zoon, Samedi. Louis belooft zijn zoon dat hij hem ooit zijn thuisland zou laten zien. Nu is het moment gekomen om die belofte na te komen: hij neemt de dertienjarige Samedi mee naar zijn vaderland Amerika, waar er zich voor Samedi’s ogen een nieuwe wereld ontvouwt. Deze visueel verbluffende documentaire film ging in wereldpremière op IDFA 2013 en won er meteen ook de grote prijs.
EN/ Song from the Forest tells the story of Louis Sarno, an American who has fallen under the spell of a song that he happened to hear on the radio. He follows the song deep into the rainforests of Central Africa, where he reaches the Bayaka. He stays put, learns the language, falls in love and has a son, Samedi. Louis promises his son to one day show him his native country. Now the time has come to keep that promise: he takes thirteen-year-old Samedi to America, where a new world unfolds in front of Samedi's eyes. This visually stunning documentary film had its world premiere at IDFA 2013 and won the grand prize there.
